We spent the better part of this morning wandering around trying to find bears. We knew they were all around us, but the fog was so thick it was impossible to spot them. The best we could find was a fox clamming on the flats. Eventually we grew tired of the fox and we headed up to the top of this cliff that overlooks the bay to eat lunch. I was told the view from up there was normally incredible and it was still pretty amazing even with zero visibility. There were tons of wildflowers up there and a bald eagle perched on the edge for good measure. After we were done eating lunch we debated whether or not to head back to camp because finding bears was proving impossible. Luckily for us a spot of fog cleared for just a second and from our birds eye view we could see a bear clamming off in the distance. We quickly headed out to get to the bear. We had to make one short stop to let the fox go up the trail we were trying to get down. It had found a huge fish on the flats and was eagerly running it back to his den. Animals have the right of way here and we were happy to watch it pass by. Eventually we found the bear hiding in the fog and spent the next hour or so photographing it. I always love shooting in any kind of weather let it be rain, snow fog or whatever. I like the mood it adds to a photograph.

i really liked the commentary for this one, all of these photos seem dreamlike and its awesome that you captured the mood in all of them...ive never seen a bear in the wild, but i could only imagine its one of the most amazing feelings to be in its presence...a naturally stunning capture.

These pictures are truly great, in every aspect. But when I see this, I once again wonder, don't the animals, in this case the bear, care about you in any way? I think you were pretty close, so don't do they get curious or maybe hungry? ;) Or is it all a matter of seeing, but not being seen?
